Peptide library · Recovery & repair
BPC-157
Body Protection Compound-157
Research stage15amino acids, based on a sequence from a protein in human gastric juice
What it is
A synthetic peptide and one of the most studied in the lab, especially for tissue repair.
Why researchers are interested
- Wound healing is its strongest research area: burn, diabetic wound and muscle injury models in rodents.
- Animal studies on tendon, ligament and soft tissue repair.
- Rodent studies reported protective effects on the stomach lining and liver.
- Small human report: 11 of 12 knee pain patients said they had relief.
Good to know
- Not FDA approved. An FDA advisory panel voted 8 to 6 in July 2026 to allow pharmacy compounding; FDA hasn't decided.
- Large human trials haven't been done yet. Prohibited in sport (WADA).
Evidence level: 2 of 5
